Honeymoon

We have been really lucky. My fiance discovered he has been on an emergency tax code for the last 12 months! Yes, the government has been stealing more than usual. So he received a very well timed tax refund of £1,495. This is fabulous news regardless. But as my readers will know, we are getting married in... 12 days. We had started to resign ourselves to the idea that we would not be having a 'real' honeymoon in the conventional sense, as we just can not afford to. We have said to our wedding guests that instead of gifts we would appreciate donations towards a honeymoon as we already live together and so there isn't anything that we really need. (Plus we are moving soon - but that's another blog post altogether). However, even taking into consideration any donations that may be made, we couldn't secure a holiday without money upfront of course, so it looked as though we would be spending our 2 weeks off work at home together planning where to go later in the year.
Of course this is why the tax refund is such spectacular news for us both. Shaun decided that the money was going to pay for us to have a holiday abroad, as we have not been away since I took him to Majorca for his 21st birthday 4 years ago!
We had a look at what is available on short notice, and Italy, Menorca & Turkey were the main three. We weren't keen on Italy as we really wanted a beach holiday, we heard such great things about Turkey and then discovered that holidays were cheaper to book as well cheaper to be there as they are out of the euro zone and therefore we get a much better exchange rate. So it made a Turkish holiday a no brainer.
We have booked 11 nights all inclusive to Ölüdeniz from the 18th June. Among the places to visit while we are there are the mud baths and Turtle Beach in Dalyan, the markets in Fethiye, and a place called Butterfly valley with a scenic walk through butterfly rich woodland to a waterfall. Not to mention ruins & tombs, the Blue lagoon, and several boat tours if you choose.
We have also noted 2 recommended restaurants - Oyster Residences in Ölüdeniz, a short walk along the beach from our Hotel, and the Cin bal Grill restaurant in Fethiye.
As an example of just how cheap the currency works out over there, a meal in one of those restaurants is just over 40 lira at the most expensive. That is the equivalent of £13 in the UK. So it means our money will go a lot further and we can treat ourselves and have a really great time!
I will of course report back when we get home with photo's and locations and hopefully even website links for the places we visited during our stay!
