Happy Glastonbury

I spent the day with my mum yesterday and we decided we'd take a trip to Glastonbury in Somerset. It's one of my favorite places. Mostly known for the Festival but has so much more to offer. It's so beautiful, with period buildings, unique quirky shops, local art, and some wonderful café's and traditional pubs.

And of course, the Tor - St. Michael's tower on the hill. You can read more about it on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Tor
I have climbed it in the past and believe me it's fantastic, as the Tor rises above the Somerset levels the views are out of this world, it's been renowned as a holy place for years and is surrounded by many myths and legends including in Celtic mythology, the Tor became associated with Gwyn ap Nudd, who was first Lord of the Underworld, and later King of the Fairies.

It has some really lovely shops that are hard to find any where else,  pagan and alternative and most with a good stead on ethical and organic items including a small high street supermarket dedicated as such, and are such a breath of fresh air from the normality and bore of the average town.
It has it's own sense of spirituality, it's relaxing, has a soothing atmosphere and is simply a pleasant place to be come rain or shine. As yesterday, it was even glorious in the rain.

After an hour so of hopping in and out of little shops and boutiques we stopped in the little Mocha Berry Café  for homemade french toast with maple syrup, along with a latte and hot chocolate with whipped cream.  This little place is mouth watering, with a great selection on their menu and great prices.

If you ever find yourself in Somerset, then Glastonbury is most definitely a place to stop by. There's plenty of culture to soak up as well plenty of places to buy yourself a little something to remember the place by.
