Well it's finally here and has begun. Did we all see the opening ceremony? I loved it, I think Danny Boyle did an excellent job transforming the stadium and taking us through from one scene to the next. Having the whole thing go through Britain's industrial history was such a unique special idea, and really moving. We rarely think about what our country had been through and the environment our ancestors grew up and lived in. I think it warmed all our hearts and for once, we really did feel proud to be British.
I'm not a huge lover of sports, to be honest I hate any sport at all, I don't like to participate or spectate whatsoever, so my interest in the Olympics is somewhat non-existent. However I am being subjected to a lot of it as my husband is glued to the screen like a toddler watching a Disney film. I have enjoyed the gymnastics, and the diving - although I have yet to see the men's synchronized diving. Mostly for the very toned male torso's but still, I took an interest. But watching the ladies gymnastics is just breathtaking. I find myself holding my breath and involuntarily tensing when they start their routines. It is truly a talent that takes some 'balls' to get there and to achieve the level of perfection and success they have. I am awe inspired watching them. Less so the hurdles or running or anything else, but still.
This event does seem to bring all our countries together, peacefully, to have a good time, and to take pride in our individual and each others nations, and I think in this day and age that really is something!
So, Go Team GB! & good luck to all the other counties trooping their colours in London 2012!
